It is a challenging thought to consider whether one can truly be considered a disciple of Christ. Yes, we can believe in Christ, we can read his words, we can attend church, do all the surface things. But how do we know when we are actually a disciple? There are different levels of discipleship, ranging from a faint belief that Jesus was a good prophet, to a deep conviction that causes a entire change of life, a change of heart, where your will is swallowed up in the will of God. What does that mean?
I feel that it has a lot to do with our love for God. I myself have been on different parts of the continuum of discipleship. Currently, I feel like I am higher than I ever have been, but I don't know how high that would be compared to anyone else. (I don't think it matters where I am in comparison to others really, but that's a different post). I know that as I have worked to share my testimony of Jesus Christ, I have gained more of a testimony. I have also felt closer as I have studied the scriptures, listened to prophets, and attended the temple. I think a mark of discipleship can be measured in the way you observe and treat others. If you truly desire their welfare, and see mostly good in others, I think you are on the right path. If you are willing to give things up and deal with personal sacrifice for others, I think you are well on your way to full discipleship.
Overall, the closer you draw to God, the closer He will draw to you. I testify this in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
